TASO

TASO was organized in 1965 - 66 and Mrs. Henry S. Miller (2/14/1912 - 11/21/2003) of Dallas, Texas, was elected the first President in 1967.  The purpose was to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas to support and promote the interest and growth of symphony orchestras around the state.

At present, TASO is composed of 31 member organizations representing to states.  Volunteer member organizations enjoy privileges, which include a communicaation network, information clearinghouse, a unified voice for arts, advocacy, and an annual student concerto competition.

Each spring a different city serves as host for the TASO Conference.  Abilene will host the 2009 April 16 - 19 conference.  Educational workshops are led by well-known speakers, annual awards are presented, and entertainment has no limit
